Matthew was born and raised in St. John's, NL. He Graduated from Gonzaga High School in 2010 and later graduated from the Memorial University of Newfoundland in 2014 with a Major in Psychology and a Minor in Biology (B.Sc.). Following his undergraduate studies, Matthew attended law school at the Dalhousie Schulich School of Law, graduating in 2017. Throughout his time at law school, Matthew was heavily involved with the school's ball hockey and ice hockey teams, as well as serving on the executive of the Domus Legis Society, for which he served as the President in his third year.
Matthew completed his articles at a mid-sized firm in downtown Ottawa and was called to the Bar of Ontario in June 2018. Matthew subsequently moved back to St. Johh's and joined Gittens & Associates in September 2018. He was called to the Bar of Newfoundland and Labrador in October 2018.
Matthew has a general practice, although his two main focus areas are Family Law and Civil Litigation (with an emphasis on Medical Malpractice). He has appeared before all courts in the Province including the Provincial Court, the Supreme Court, and the Court of Appeal, and he is an active member of the Atlantic Provinces Trial Lawyers Association ("APTLA").
In his spare time, Matthew likes to play music, particularly the guitar, piano, and saxophone. He also plays hockey during the week and competes in a Pool League. Matthew is also a former All-Star hockey coach (PeeWee and Bantam divisions).
